Applications for admission into the Analytics for Managers Certificate are accepted year-round for entry into any semester. Due to course sequencing, most students will find entry into a fall semester allows them to complete the certificate most expediently.

All application requirements, listed below, should be submitted to gradprograms@business.siu.edu.

  1. Graduate student status
    • Certificates are not considered graduate “programs of study.” Because of this, only graduate students who are already in a program of study or recognized as a non-declared student may apply for admission.
    • Please identify your status with us at the time of your application.
  2. Letter from your advisor
    • Please have your advisor submit a memorandum of support for your participation in completing our certificate. This does not need to be extensive, simply a statement that the program or school supports you in taking the time to complete the coursework for the certificate.
    • If you are currently a non-declared student and thus not in a program of study, this requirement is waived.
  3. Résumé
    • Please submit your latest résumé. This will help us determine your professional technical experience as well as see how our program might fit into your career path.

NOTE: If you wish to apply to the Certificate in Analytics for Managers as a non-declared student and are neither a citizen nor a permanent resident of the United States, please contact Nicholas at nghoff@business.siu.edu.

The oM.B.A. program runs for 23 months and begins each year in mid-June and following SIU's academic calendar for semester start and end dates.

The oM.B.A. program is broken into cohorts such that students will follow one another through their program of study. Although we do accommodate unforeseen circumstances, most students will follow their cohort in lockstep from beginning to end, giving them an opportunity to connect more deeply to one another and create a career-building network with other professionals from across the country and world.

Therefore, applications for admission to the oM.B.A. are accepted only for entry into summer semesters. Please find below the requirements to complete your application dossier.

  1. Graduate School’s application
    • The Graduate School's application consists of all the basic required pieces of information for entry into any graduate program at SIU. We can only see an application once it is complete, including the application fee. Until then, we are unable to see or review an applicant’s materials.
    • The portal also allows you to upload several documents, including the required documents identified below. With the exception of the letters of recommendation, you may alternately e-mail them directly to us at gradprograms@business.siu.edu if you do not have them available at the time you complete your application.
  2. Work experience document
    • We ask that you submit your employment history in a specific format (for our AACSB accreditation report). Please prepare a single page document listing all prior paid employment. Starting with your first job as “1” and moving chronologically toward the present, please use the following format and number each job listed:
      • Job #: Position Title, Company, Location, MM/DD/YYYY to MM/DD/YYYY
      • Example job lines 1 and 2:
1: Sales Associate, Big Box Inc., Chicago, Illinois, 11/16/1996 to 04/30/2000
2: Sales Floor Manager, Big Box Inc., Chicago, Illinois, 4/30/2000 to 08/22/2005
    • Your résumé cannot substitute for this document.
    • Please be sure to include both military and work experience.
    • While the program is designed primarily for current working professionals, we understand that our program may be a good fit for some candidates who do not have any paid employment history at all. If that reflects your situation, you may submit this document with a note to that effect, but with no jobs listed.
    • As previously noted, this may be submitted through the Graduate School’s application portal or e-mailed to us directly.
  3. Five (5) Essays
    • Please answer these questions thoroughly and thoughtfully; your responses to these are considered during the admissions process.
      1. What professional and personal goals have you established for the next 5-10 years and how do you see graduate education to achieve those goals?
      2. Describe one or more personal achievements and discuss the qualities in you that made those achievements possible. How could those same qualities lead to success in your professional career?
      3. Are your grade-point average and GMAT score (if known) indicative of your abilities? Explain why or why not.
      4. List organizations and activities in which you have been involved. Indicate leadership roles.
      5. List all awards, honors, scholarships, and other recognitions you have received. Also mention any scholarly or creative works you have completed that are relevant.
    • There are no specific page requirements as the complexity of your answers will depend on the specifics of your situation, as well as your formatting preferences. Successful applicants have been able to answer these questions in as few as one or two pages, but a handful have written as many as twenty pages.
    • As previously noted, this may be submitted through the Graduate School's application portal or e-mailed to us directly.
  4. Letters of recommendation
    • Please submit the names and contact information for three people willing to submit a letter of recommendation on your behalf.
    • Normally this process should be completed entirely through the Graduate School's application portal, which will automatically contact the recommenders you identify. However, alternative arrangements can be made under extenuating circumstances (i.e. a reference is unreachable by e-mail). Please contact us directly if this is needed.
    • The College of Business and Analytics prefers to receive the recommendation letters as uploaded documents directly through the portal they will have access to through the automatic e-mail. Please communicate that preference in the personal message that you send to the recommenders before you submit their information.
  5. Transcripts
    • We must receive transcripts from all institutions of higher education that you’ve attended.
    • If you upload these directly into the application portal, we may be able to give an early review to your application, but we will still need to receive your official transcripts directly from each institution.
  6. Graduate entrance examination score(s)
    • To see if you’re a candidate for a GMAT/GRE waiver, please contact us at gradprograms@business.siu.edu.
    • Although most of our Online MBA’s demographic will qualify for a GMAT/GRE waiver, for those who do not qualify, we must receive your official GMAT or GRE (Institution Code: 1726; Suggested Dept. Code: 4323) scores.
    • If you upload your scores directly into the application portal, we may be able to give an early review to your application, but we will still need to receive your official scores.
  7. Résumé
    • Please submit your latest résumé. This will help us determine your professional experience as well as see how our program might fit into your career path.
    • Please be sure to include both military and work experience.
    • As previously noted, this may be submitted through the Graduate School’s application portal or e-mailed to us directly.
  8. Personal statement
    • Please submit a one to two-page single-spaced personal statement that, at a minimum, answers the following questions:
      1. To which concentration are you applying?
        1. Online MBA without concentration (i.e. “general concentration”), OR
        2. Online MBA with a concentration in Analytics for Managers.
      2. How do you plan to commit to a 2-year online MBA program (e.g., your current job, your family situation, and your ability to finance the program)?
      3. Why are you a great candidate for the online MBA program?
      4. What is your ability to work with others in a virtual environment?
      5. What is it about an online MBA program that appeals to you?
    • As previously noted, this may be submitted through the Graduate School’s application portal or e-mailed to us directly.
