The Online MBA with a concentration in Analytics for Managers involves a commitment to a twenty-three month, 43-credit graduate management curriculum delivered entirely via the Internet. Using the most up-to-date digital technology, you participate in class activities, access course material, and receive an engaging program every bit as rigorous as our on-campus coursework.

Listed below are the courses specific to Analytics for Managers.  These courses will be intermixed with core MBA coursework.

BA 525 - Data Science and Analytics for Managers

Provides a broad overview of basic concepts, principles, and recent innovations in Data Science. Data Science is the study of the extraction of knowledge from data. Data Science includes good domain knowledge, data modeling, database, statistics, and AI to produce effective solutions, predictions, and insights. This course will give a practical introduction to business analytics using databases, data warehouses, structured, and unstructured data from a cross-section of industries. Restricted to enrollment in College of Business graduate program or consent of the department.

This course will take you from the roots of data modeling through the structured files and databases of yesterday, through the data warehouses of today, and into the unbelievable amount of massively unstructured data of tomorrow. You will learn how to understand your data, to collect the data you need, to find what you want in that data, extract it efficiently and effectively, and finally present it to those who need it. Credits: 3

BA 526 - Advanced Analytics and AI for Managers

The goal of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is to have a machine that can perform the cognitive functions of the human mind such as learning and thinking. This course is an introduction to artificial intelligence and how it can be combined with data analytics to create a powerful tool for better decision making. Prerequisite: BA 525 Data Science and Analytics or equivalent. Restricted to enrollment in College of Business graduate program or consent of department.

The first step in the analytics process includes understanding your business problem, building a model, finding the data, and ensuring that the data is clean and good. This course covers the second step of the analytics process: data extraction. The data model tells you "what." This course tells you "how."

Data extraction from structured sources (like databases) is easy. Of course, we'll cover that. What's very hard is data extraction from unstructured sources like text, transcripts, audio and video. This is where artificial intelligence comes in. We'll cover speech recognition, text analysis and machine learning. A second, and very important, aspect of artificial intelligence is model currency. The world changes. If you don't keep your models up to date they will give you bad advice. AI is the key to current models working with current data to give you current results. Credits: 3

BA 527 - Advanced Analytics and Visualization for Managers

AThis course will introduce students to the field of data visualization. Data visualization is the science of stripping data down to its most important structures and then using the best techniques to take advantage of human perception for effective communication, decision making, and persuasion. Students will learn how to present data in the most efficient, effective, and aesthetic for decision making. Prerequisite: BA 525 Data Science and Analytics or equivalent. Restricted to enrollment in College of Business graduate program or consent of department.

You have your data. You've run it through your analytics engine and have some interesting results. The problem is that it's buried in several models, dumped in a few hundred pages of spreadsheets, or hidden somewhere in the software. Great. You need to present your results to the CEO who has no time to try to understand the complexities of your models. You need to get your point across efficiently, effectively, and persuasively. This is the purpose of data visualization. From the lowly pie chart to the executive dashboard to the most complex 3D animations, data visualization is how you get what you know into the CEO's head. Credits: 3

BA 528 - MBA Analytics Capstone

This is the capstone course in data analytics. Students will apply techniques learned in analytics, data science, artificial intelligence, and visualization in a variety of real world scenarios. Emphasis is on creative, abstract, and integrative thinking in executing a program in data analytics and managing the data analytics function. Prerequisite: BA 525 Data Science and Analytics, BA 526 Advanced Analytics and Artificial Intelligence, and BA 527 Advanced Analytics and Visualization. Restricted to enrollment in College of Business graduate program or consent of department. Credits: 3
